Learn or Get Fired as Coinbase goes Full Machine Mode

Is this a taste of things to come?

AI moves faster than headlines.

Welcome back to The Midas Report, we track the power plays behind them so that you can take action.

Today we’re about to unpack the future of things to come, this is the new world unfolding in real time.

So what happened?

Well Brian Armstrong just made AI literacy mandatory and not in the “take a webinar next quarter” kind of way.

Someone leaked an internal memo and let’s just say, it was aggressive.

In this memo, Coinbase’s CEO reportedly told employees they have one week to get up to speed on AI or “risk getting shown the door”.

Sounds pretty cut throat, even by crypto standards.

The real significance here though is that it signals something bigger than just Silicon Valley bravado. We’re watching the shift from “early adopter” to “learn or leave” in real time.

What’s happening at Coinbase is part transformation, part triage. Exec level AI rollouts used to mean pilot programs, optional training, maybe some hackathon buzz.

Not anymore.

By going company wide, instantly, Armstrong is accelerating technical capability by brute force. No more waiting on ops or legal to “circle back.” You learn fast, or you're off the bus.

And don’t think this is just a Coinbase thing either. The implications stretch well beyond crypto or even big tech.

If your business is selling into, partnering with, or recruiting from the kind of forward leaning companies that will survive this decade, AI fluency is no longer a helpful bonus, it’s a filter.

That brings us to the obvious but pressing question, how AI fluent is your org, really?

Product teams might be experimenting, maybe your marketing lead prompted ChatGPT that one time. But are all functions equipped to understand, test, and apply AI meaningfully in their day to day work?

If not, they’re already lagging behind the Coinbase curve.

This also ups the ante for AI builders. If entire companies are kicking into AI bootcamp overnight, they’ll be looking for tools with real usability, not just technical flash. Think onboarding flows, built in training, UX that works for sales ops, not just prompt engineers.

Coinbase drew the line. Future ready companies will either cross it, or get left behind.
